Soumya Mahanti
Soumya Mahanti is a contemporary visual artist based in New Delhi, currently practising at Triveni Kala Sangam. His work centres on figurative exploration, engaging with the human form as a site of vulnerability, memory, and psychological presence rather than representation or spectacle.
Working across various media, Mahanti treats surface and texture as records of time and labour. His figures often emerge gradually—through erasure, layering, and restraint—reflecting an interest in process over finish and inquiry over resolution.
Mahanti’s practice resists objectification and narrative certainty. Instead, it focuses on subjectivity, ethical looking, and quiet tension, allowing ambiguity and incompleteness to remain integral to the work. Influenced by classical music, contemplative philosophy, and sustained discipline, his mark-making carries a meditative rhythm and emotional economy.
His work reflects an ongoing engagement with art as slow practice and internal necessity, where making becomes a form of attentive seeing rather than display.
